Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Summarize important points made within the 2010 European League Against Rheumatism recommendations for the management of cardiovascular risk in patients with RA
  2. Identify new and classical risk factors among patients with RA that contribute to an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease
  3. Review the data regarding effects on cardiovascular risk of both nonbiologic and biologic DMARDs commonly used in the treatment of RA
  4. Discuss reasons why total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein measurements may be misleading in providing a snapshot of cardiovascular risk in patients with RA
